Let’s take a break from the hoity-toity fashion shows with this. Dr. Marten has released some really cool pastel colored boots. I remember wearing Docs in High School, but the colors were pretty basic back then. This was when grunge was big, so I used to wear these with flower  dresses and a knit sock hat. Pretty hideous by today’s standards. It was Marc Jacobs fault….and Nirvana.   Anyway, these go for about $114, which is pretty good since these will last you forever. I wonder if these come in the up the knee version…

Usually, when you mention anything Renaissance, images of the tacky King’s Richard’s Faire conjure up in your head. As soon as I found out you had to wait in a line to pay to get Coins and then stand in another  line again to pay with the Coins for food, I was seriously disappointed. It really was the Renaissance! That and also the cloaked deep, dark, depressed, zit-faced boy behind me.  But anyway,  amazingly, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana pull the look off looking anything but tacky. With an Operatic air, these dresses are fit for anyone at any age (granted you have nice legs).  I love the first outfit the best. The last photo shows a fur shawl that I adore- It looks like something out of  The Tudors… or the Flintstones. I still eat Flintstone vitamins along with my son. The purple are the best. Anyway, I always confuse Versace with D&G. I think Versace is more like cougar-wear. D&G is waaaaaay better.

Jean-charles de Castelbajac  has just jumped to the top of my favorite designers list. Anyone who immortalizes (were they ever mortal to begin with?) the Muppets through fashion can make any fashion faux pas and be forever immune to my snappy words. I find it HILARIOUS that a French designer went to town with Kermit the Frog. You know he was thinking of the ‘All you can Mange’ Frog legs at Bistro Romaine! I would totally wear that, by the way. I wish the Men’s Muppet suit would come in a size Toddler 4. My son would rock it everyday- top hat and all…

That Michael Jackson dress should come in, like, the 8 different stages of MJ. This would be the first and of course it would proceed as a lighter and lighter and more fuped MJ. The last one would have an umbrella hat , like at Alexander McQueen (see below) and Pajamas.

Gareth Pugh’s Fall 2009 collection was more toned down than his past collections. Very clean and modern with a touch of the bizarre, Pugh unveiled heavy  dresses  and coats in a futuristic foil finish. On the flipside, he also showed slim fitting pants and jackets with some patches of thin fur resembling, dare I say, a lady in waiting for her first wax session of the season? Pugh showed his collection the non-traditional way of a video presentation, like Victor & Rolf last season. I think the collection is intriguing enough for buyers to go to the showroom and see this up and coming designer’s wonderful work.

PS- I love the peek-a -boo jacket above- Perfect for days when you don’t want to wear lipstick or have a cold sore! (ewww!) kidding!) The dress is great for when Aunt Flo is visiting. Hide the bloat!

I know, referencing that 90s TV show, Perfect Strangers shows my age… Anyway, John Galliano has been drinking the same water as Karl Lagerfeld because he is equally as talented. He overseas several collections and all of them are drastically different from each other within the same season. Galliano was inspired by  Russian-Balkan folklore which made for a beautiful collection. Sprinkled with pom pom-ed footwear,  silver chains and intricate silver embroidery, Galliano captured the traditional look with the right twist of high fashion creating a chic and new take on the often dowdy folk dresses of Russian villagers residing in the Balkan Mountains. This is one collection that I would snap up in its entirety and wear day and night while drinking tea from the samovar.

Rei Kawakubo was in rare form this season by designing pieces  for Comme des Garçon that you can actually wear on the street and not be mistaken for a hobo. Honestly, Rei has surprised me with this collection. Granted, when you look above there is all sorts of fupeness, but if you take it piece by piece, you may be able to actually wear it in public! The veiled models walked with Geisha inspired candy colored hair. My favorite is the trompe l’oiel military jacket. It reminds me of the Moschino trench coat from Kill Bill worn by Daryl Hannah. The nude, gossamer fabrics are quite gorgeous, too. Although the plaid blanket is going the hobo way- fight it , Rei!… fight the hobo look….

Alexander McQueen is one of my favorite designers because he makes the most fupe looking clothes look desirable. He has pushed the boundaries (once again) by taking houndstooth and tweeds and turning them upside  down, inside out and around creating a completely new and fresh look. With umbrella hats and trash bag inspired fabrics, McQueen made the strange , chic. McQueen sent out models with exaggerated lips (could be candy lips?) and towering heels beckoning the podiatrists back into our lives. Once ensemble resembled a feather straightjacket! Genius- she literally went Cuck-coo! The question is – is it wearable? Why the hell not!? The world is crumbling, but at least we have our clothes!

PS- Alexander McQueen has released a budget friendly collection this month at select Target stores- be sure to check it out!
