After 22 years of designing, Christian Lacroix is closing its legendary design house. That sucks. Apparently, the slumping economy is to blame. I think everything is the economy’s fault. I think the endless rain in the East Coast is the economy! I think polar bears becoming cannibals are the economy’s fault. I think my cat’s spinal cord injury is because of the damn economy! The economy killed Michael Jackson! I’m getting off track, BUT if you see the economy, smack him in the face for me. I’ll stop. Anyway, wipe away your tears, because it seems like Lacroix may be making a comeback probably after the economy is done crapping on everyone! Let’s keep our fingers crossed and give the economy a laxative to just let it bottom out (no pun) faster. Sorry for the imagery.  By the way, his last wedding dress was spectacular! Long live Lacroix!

Chrisrian Lacroix has a reputation of building an ensemble with so many different patterns and textures that may give onlookers a strained eye. In his 2009 Couture collection, Lacroix actually toned it down a bit (if you can believe it). No longer a circus show of the past, this collection was actually rich with embroidery fit for a Russian princess with Lacroix’ s signature  splash of bright colors and whimsy. My favorite from the entire collection is the first photo of a blue suit. That ensemble is sure to make any lady look like a porcelain doll, or Dita Von Teese, which in my book is the epitome of beauty. The one thing about Lacroix is his ability to maintain his signature look throughout all these years and still have people recognize his designs without looking at the tag or asking. That, to me, is a an achievement.

Christian Lacroix’s Spring 2009 fashion show featured accessories of the bony type. Is it a hommage to the anorexic look that has taken over images of fashion or is it just in time for halloween? Who knows and who cares! They’re supercool! However, I wouldn’t wear like a whole breastplate of it for fear of looking too savage! This could start a new trend of shrunken skulls… savage chic!
