First off- The designer that had to fill Alexander McQueen shoes must have been shitting her pants.

Secondly, She did a pretty good job.

Thirdly, that hair at the show was beyond SPECTACULAR! It was like a basket came to life! It was like a checkerboard – how did they do that? While I ponder this, I remember I had done a hair show in NYC ages ago and I was modeling for Paul Mitchell and they did a dye job exactly like that- a checkerboard. Blonde and brunette. Only thing was that I was a demonstration model, so after doing only one side of my hair they kicked my ass off stage! So, I was walking around with the most effed up hair west of the Port Authority. That’s saying a lot considering the area. Anyway, a Feria dye job later I was back to normal, but needless to say it was a scarring experience.

Anyway, this collection was great- my favorites are the orange dress with butterflies emerging from the collar and the greyish, white feather dress in the first photo. That gold and cream dress (photo 5)  was equally stunning, too. Still, it’s such a shame a huge talent is gone.

Our favorite cheeky designer whipped out his 3D glasses for his collection. No one told him you don’t need 3D glasses with Beth Ditto! Kidding! She looks wonderful. Love her flapper-style hair, actually. I liked Gaultier’s latest collection, but I didn’t love love it. I was torn between the Joan Jett mullet and the David Bowie suit. It’s like, so cool from the neck down and Central Floridian trailer trash from the neck up.  I think my favorite out of the bunch was the peach corset in the fourth photo. Corsets are what Gaultier does best, in my opinion… wish there was more of that in this collection. Besides that, those pointy shoulders are pretty cool, too.

Reminscent of other Japanese designers like Comme Des Garçon, Tao unveiled its spring 2011 collection with  mostly simple white and black ensembles embellished with ruffles. There was an air of the Victorian era with the neck ruffs and knickers. There were also doody hair dos- no! kidding… they were elongated chignons…. yeah, that’s it. Anyway, I can see myself wearing these, especially the knicker outfit during a leisure walk through a meadow (when does that ever happen?)

Brooklyn photography duo Kat + Duck have some visually striking work that are both dramatic and chic. I love the huge half circle on the model’s head in the last photo. She just needs a carrot hanging from the tip and be a bunny. Or in my case, hang some delicious fried chicken at the end. I’d run all damn day! Be sure to check out their site, especially the ‘Rorschach Test’ photo shoot with a model serving as the ‘ink blots’… pretty damn cool if you ask me. I also dig the Russian-style splash page.- Kra-si-va-ya*!

*That means “beautiful” or something in Russian. Seriously, I learned that from a mail order bride.

Cars as headwear, bejeweled legs, colors that make the circus look like a funeral…. that would be Manish Arora’s Spring 2011 collection! I can’t hate on Manish because at least it’s colorful. After watching collection after collection of drab ’70s colors or monochromatic schemes, this is like cake to me. By the way, the latex leggings are pretty cool for that ‘mannequin’ look. I see the side-pony tail has made a comeback- that’s how I wear my hair to bed. It’s the only way not to sleep on the ponytail bump. Also, Mr. Marmar likes to burrow in my hair in the early morning hours and the side ponytail guarantees a good chunk to burrow in. Anyway, even though I probably wouldn’t wear any of these looks, “yay” for Manish for being colorful.

This is for the United Bamboo* calendar. So, every year  United Bamboo takes actual outfits from their collections and makes them fit for a kitty. Genius!!! Then they take photos of these fashionable furry beasts and put them in a calendar. Then people like me  buy the calendar and gooo and gaaa everyday of the week whenever we pass by the  feline calendar in our kitchen. I can’t wait to get my copy! Apparently, their pattern maker is a cat lady so she was down with making kitty-sized garments. That last photo of a Mr. Marmar clone in curlers has nothing to do with the calendar, by the way. I threw it in for an extra special treat for all you cat fanatics ( ok, it was for me). Yay for kitties! My favorite cat model, by the way,  is the first photo. He’s so fluffy, yet professor-y. He also looks cranky. Someone needs to take off their cranky pants! Mooshmuffin!!

* I had no idea who United Bamboo was until I saw this on Cat Party. I’m a fan now!!!

POOFskirts on Etsy has the gear for that one tacky raver with the binky hanging around her neck. I mean, I’ve been there and done that like a over decade and half ago- so I can’t really hate. Two things come to mind when pom-poms come to mind: Bobby socks and arts & crafts at a daycare. I have a pair of bobby socks with a neon pink pom pom at the ankle. One fell off so it looks like quite pathetic. But I wear it anyway. My son likes to stick googly eyes to large pom poms for a gaggle of fuzzy monsters. I think googly eyes on each pom pom on this skirt could qualify it to be borderline creepy. That may just work to the skirt’s advantage. If you’re about to rave through the night and/or want to entertain small children, this just may be for you.
