Heavens!! The Hello Kitty Carnival came to town (Santa Monica, CA) and naturally, I dropped everything and went. Seriously, I was turning Japanese by taking photos of every single detail. Here are a sliver of all the photos I took. It was like Sanrio exploded and each glitter turned into a damn carnival game. It was like the smoke became artwork with it’s own booth. It’s was like Twin Little Stars fluttered from the heavens and said, “Make mine a 99”. It was like…  I’ll stop there. But you get what I mean.

Anyway, there was a mini-golf, ferris wheel, carnival booths, artwork from famous artists, like Joe Ledbetter, a Hello Kitty pop-up shop (with a 2 hour wait to get in) and loads of food trucks, and yummy desserts. Pretty much what I expect in heaven when I kick the bucket. I hope God is taking notes.

Anywho, I wore a vintage mohair cape from Scotland, powder blue Hunter boots, Vivienne Westwood handbag, Benetton argyle knit skirt, and house ring by We Wear. My hair was an unfortunate experiment with my hot curlers- never again.

This is definitely on my Christmas list! It’s an iPod/ iPhone dock speaker system in a steroid-size Be@rbrick. It comes in white or black  (no Pink?) and retails for about $180. If I get one, I will certainly bedazzle the hell out of it- like make it look all diamante and stuff.

Also, to get into the holiday spirit, check out these 400% Nutcracker Be@rbrick by Dr. Romanelli x Medicom Toy. This retails for about $88, which is sort of a bargain seeing it’s very large one. Brilliant work, I say!

Artist Pei-San Ng’s “Passionis a collection of artwork made each with over 2,500 matches. That is more tedious than plucking one thousand ingrown hairs from your southern region. Seriously, these matches are all perfectly aligned and standing upright. Even Rain Man is impressed! I love the ones that have been set on fire. I sound like such a pyro! HAHHAHA! Iswear the only thing I light up is my damn Yankee Candle every night. Anyway, brilliant work Pei-San and congrats on having the world’s shortest last name (see below)!

Because you know a dude is not gonna steal a bike named Nina! Write A Bike is the creation of French designer Juri Zaech and is at the prototype stage. So, you’re gonna have to wait a little bit for this one to hit the market. I really love the colors of the bikes, too. You know how some names are longer than others, like Hatmaguptafratarinagarosterlous? How does that work? And what if your name was a little malnourished and only two letters like, Ed? I think you would fall off the bike, is what. Anywho, I would totally get this if my fear of riding a bike would subside. Blame it on my brother running me over with a bike when I was 5. Thanks, man.

So, I can’t wait for the new Tron movie to come out. Mostly because it a) It looks awesome b) the music is awesome (by Daft Punk) c) I love neon  and d) tight leather catsuits. One of my favorite art cafes, Royal T in LA (Culver City, to be exact) has a Tron pop-up shop that is worth seeing if you are a mega fan. They have jewelry, shoes, clothes, t-shirts, artwork and headphones, as well as other stuff Tron-related. You may have seen Royal T in my past posts. If you are visiting LA, it’s not that far off, and is worth stopping in regardless of what exhibit is on. Anyway, Tron comes out December 16th- I’m so getting ready to go in the grid!

American artist Robin Barcus Slonina latest project is making a dress sculpture for all 50 states. The first of the bunch are New York ( trash bag dress (I can’t forgive her for that!)), Nevada (casino chips dress -sounds about right although, I’d add a fannypack to make it pop), Maine, (pinecone dress (imagine the little bugs crawling!) and Wyoming (willow dress- which should have been NY, because it could look like the bodies floating in the Hudson River after a mafia spat). I threw in the rest of the photos of her work like a feather duster dress (I would totally dust the house wearing that), beachball dress ( from the 99 cent store aka “that store with a lot of typos and effed up cheap stuff “), and sponge dress ( are you sponge worthy?). Check out her blog for more everyday crap turned couture.

French artist Elene Usdin uses beauty with a touch of creepy for most of her work. I really enjoy her art only because my mind goes into twisted territory from time to time. No need to worry ,though- I’m current on my meds. Those stuffed legs are what’s NOT right. It looks like a curious case of the mysterious cankles. Then, you realize it’s just a stuffed leg. Being a Lego fan, the Lego machine gun is pretty sweet. After seeing these, I totally want yarn hair. I’m gonna have to give my Yaki-braids a backseat, because yarn is where it’s at, obviously. Check out more of Elene’s work here. Don’t miss the ladies sandwiched between mattresses. That will boggle your mind!.
