This is some ah-maze-ing dresses by Amato Haute Couture . I have never heard of this designer until I saw this on Haute Macabre. Turns out they are out of Dubai and only do couture gowns, but really they need to move their ass to Paris and sign up (it’s like signing up for a badminton team, right?) to be part of Couture week there. I see some Gaultier and Givenchy in the dresses, but it’s still uniquely gorgeous. And nude is my new favorite color- It’s like only you’re lady parts are covered in jewels and the lace. I also like how the dangling baby makes for a sprinkle of madness. Anyway, I am totally going to keep Amato on my radar.

Marchesa is one of my favorite designers. They focus on evening gowns and tend to be my favorite dresses whenever I watch an award show. Beautiful, yet modern- I cannot say this collection is innovative especially since I see bits of Givenchy. I do love it and think they are gorgeous, it’s just that the sheer, heavily-embroidered gowns have already been done recently. In any case, I can’t hate on Marchesa- after all, they are the ONLY American designers that would fit in comfortably at the  Paris Haute Couture shows and I respect that.

Givenchy really is on a winning streak lately. The Spring 2011 Couture collection was only 10 looks long, but each one was a smash hit! With embroidery and detail work that took as long as 4,000 hours, Givenchy is setting a new standard of couture. I guess this is when creative meets OCD, which I totally  love ! I’m especially loving the mongo Viking hat that can fit several midgets in. Givenchy’s inspiration supposedly was Japanese Anime, which I kinda see and don’t see. I think after a few episodes of  Yu-Gi-Goh! ,everything starts looking manga-ish. I also like the smidge of neon/pastel color in the back. It’s like elegant  in the front and a rave in the back. I give this collection my stamp of approval courtesy of Miss Darcheen and her luscious lip licking.

That’s a damn honor right there!

Those gowns are beyond gorgeous. If I had that gown, I would wear it everyday. Like food shopping, to the post office, the dentist, you name it! It resembles bones and is bone color, which I find awesome. Givenchy only had 12 looks in this collection, but they are all beautiful. I’m totally for quality , not quantity.

Bones also resonated in the Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2010 Haute Couture show- Check out Dita von Teese with a corset by Mr. Pearl with accurate bone detailing… so chilling, it’s cool! I’ll take two, JPG!

Actually, it’s TOO gorgeous. I mean, it’s resort-wear, which means it’s clothes you wear lounging around a pool or beach while you wait for the night to fall so you can party in another gorgeous outfit. Most people ( wait…. the small people) wear flip flops and a cheezy shirt that they picked up at Venice Beach and hope for the best. I mean it’s gonna get all gross with the sand and sunscreen anyway, right???! But the other half, they wear resort wear like this… Anywho, I think each one is beautiful and I’d wear them out… like to dinner at a fancy, schmancy place.

I really liked this collection because it was really feminine, edgy and modern all at the same time. The purple dress in the second photo is just gorgeous! Reminds me of a more toned down Viktor & Rolf dress. The Mongolian lamb fur in the first photo looks so fluffy and soft…sort of like my cat. Anything that reminds me of my cats in a big plus in my book. I really don’t know what’s up with the lampshade, though. I guess it goes with the edgy territory. Givenchy really impressed me this season.

Is that an oxymoron?  Anyway, Givenchy ‘s Fall 2009 Haute Couture collection was most definitely inspired Islamic dress mainly worn in some parts of the Middle East. From the jeanie pants (sagging crotches are in , y’all!) to the gold head gear that would put the flashiest rapper to shame, Givenchy showed another side to it’s definition of a glamourous woman. I think Michael & Hushi did this about 8 years ago. I have several fantastic shirts from them with script in Farsi and almond-eyed sketch women that look like drawings from this book of poetry called, Hofez. Really cool stuff. The Hushi half is working on a new project called ‘Trash & Luxury’ that I will post in a few days (because it deserves a post of its own!) For now, here are some past  Michael & Hushi looks below:
