So, I can’t wait for the new Tron movie to come out. Mostly because it a) It looks awesome b) the music is awesome (by Daft Punk) c) I love neon  and d) tight leather catsuits. One of my favorite art cafes, Royal T in LA (Culver City, to be exact) has a Tron pop-up shop that is worth seeing if you are a mega fan. They have jewelry, shoes, clothes, t-shirts, artwork and headphones, as well as other stuff Tron-related. You may have seen Royal T in my past posts. If you are visiting LA, it’s not that far off, and is worth stopping in regardless of what exhibit is on. Anyway, Tron comes out December 16th- I’m so getting ready to go in the grid!

Macy Gray

LaToya Jackson

Marc by Marc Jacobs

Staples-sponsored dress made of rubber bands, paper clips and metal fasteners on ANTM winner!

Just Cavalli

This year’s Macy’s Passport benefit for HIV/AIDS took place in downtown Los Angeles at the gorgeous Orpheum Theater. Taking on a new direction than past shows, Macy’s Passport ushered us into a new era with their show called “Glamorama”. No live auctions this time, but a concise line-up of the best in popular fashion hit the trio of runways in the intimate Orpheum. Dressed in ravishing red and dripping with jewels, LaToya Jackson introduced a heart-wrenching video of people who have been helped by the APLA (Aids Project Los Angeles) and Project Angel Food. The true spirit of the night’s show was not forgotten with the remarkable stories told by those helped by these two glorious organizations.

Designers Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Marc by Marc Jacobs, I.N.C., Felina/Jezebel, 2(x)ist, Tracey Reese, Hugo Boss, Just Cavalli and Material Girl each had a show stopping fashion show of the latest Fall line.  Recording artist Eric Hutchinson performed his catchy, folksy music, a magical opening by Chris March as well as Grammy-award winning artist Macy Gray, who headlined the show.

This year, Tommy Hilfiger celebrates 25 years of classic American designs and kicked off the first fashion show of the night. Seamlessly, each show came and went with the audience cheering excitedly for the models. The overall trend of the night was dressing up is finally back. Classic suits for men and polished dresses with boots for women dominated the runway. Marc by Marc Jacobs had a clever way of using the stage with floor to ceiling wooden doors stamped with “MJ” opening and closing as each model came and left the runway.

My favorite segment of the show was Material Girl’s fashion show featuring tween and junior clothing designed by Madonna’s daughter Lola. Clips of her mother’s videos were played behind the choreographed models on the stage. One particular little girl stole the show with a re-enactment of Madonna’s Material Girl video complete with hot pink satin dress and a fantastic bow bigger than her head! The clothes were fun, punky and appropriate for the spunky girl in your life. Lots of tutus, tights and studded belts- in the vain of the 1980’s of course.

Although Macy’s Passport has changed the format compared to past shows, the new Macy’s Passport is perfect for the times we live in now. With all the suffering with HIV/AIDS felt around the world, it’s comforting to know that companies like Macy’s are still generous even with the economic downturn. Giving hope to people living with HIV/AIDS  is so important because it’s a disease that knows no boundaries. Fashion and compassion make a fabulous couple. Viva “Glamorama”!

me with an Eva Varro tunic

A cool dress by Nina Skarra

Kate Flannery with the President of Kusmi Tea

I attended the fantastic Emmy’s 2010 DPA Gifting Suite organized  by the talented Nathalie DuBois-Sissoko. It was a lovely summer day in Los Angeles and the gifting suite was outside on the patio of the Argyle Salon & Spa on Sunset Boulevard. Stars attending the Emmy Awards were pampered and gifted with the newest in luxury, fashion, beauty and food.

I started with a wonderful shoulder massage from The Massage Express , a traveling masseuse for any occasion and event. Then I had a bit of wonderful tea at Kusmi Tea, a company out of Paris that originated in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1867. Kusmi Tea comes in a variety of  high-quality flavors packed as teabags or loose teas. I really love the beautiful tin packaging, too. Yummy crepes were provided by Crepes Sans Frontieres, a mobile crepe maker available for any event. I overdosed on Nutella crepes  because they were so so good.

After I wiped the chocolate off my mouth, I made my way around the suite and checked out beautiful, vintage-inspire jewelry by RGK D’Zines,  a clean, sweet-scented perfume by Jus D’Amour Parfums, handbags by Paola Gragliatrendy and chic yoga-wear by Delano Wear,  beautiful bracelets by SwedArt embellished with pearls and buttons made from reindeer antlers. SwedArt gave me one in a what else, but … Pink!

My favorite panda, Lil Panda, was also at DPA’s gifting suite. I did a post a few weeks ago on the adorable panda known as Lil Panda. Stylish and hip dresses in slinky fabrics and colorful designs by  Eva Varro were gifted to the stars. I chose a Monet-like tunic that I can see myself wearing on a beach or during a day of shopping. Gorgeous couture gowns were offered to the Emmy nominees by Nina Skarra. Each gown had incredible detailing regarding the cut and style of the dress.

Chiaya showed their new line of versatile wraps that can go from the beach to a night out.  ChewyLou provided fun yoga-wear with inspiring words, like ‘hope’ and ‘give’.  Designer sunglasses were gifted by Marchon. A new character called Jizo and Chibi was unveiled at the suite featuring jewelry, hats, and even a children’s book called “Why A Fly?”. Timree Art showed their whimsical art on ceramic plates, bowls and canvas- all customized to you and your taste. They will even paint your soiree down to the detail of each guest so you can remember it forever and ever!

Luxury beauty line Natura Bisse gave away beauty products. The Argyle Salon & Spa offered their Brazilian Blowout favored by celebrities to all the nominees of the Emmy’s. It is a revolutionary  lasting hair treatment that smooths your hair and makes it full and healthy. A entire line of Brazilian Blowout products were gifted. A fragrant and unusual candle was offered by  Milena’s Boutique. It is an all-natural soy candle in different scents (my favorite is White Jasmine) that when melted can also be used as a moisturizer. It smells so amazing!

Several lucky stars received the DPA staple, a luxurious vacation at Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort & Spa. I wound down with a refreshing Steaz drink, a variety of flavors made with natural ingredients and green tea, and a scrumptious Millie’s Cheesecakes, hand-crafted, gourmet cheesecake bites in several wonderful flavors, like lemon. Luckily, they deliver nationwide for cheesecake fans. Speaking of delivery, Wholesome2go delivers healthy, organic foods in the Los Angeles area right to your door.

Also, included in the gift bags were Coca-Cola products, SmartWater, a DVD of Food Matters, and others.

It was a wonderful day at DPA’s gifting suite. Award season has officially begun! Until next time…

xoxo,

roxy

I was strolling around the new Santa Monica Place Mall that just re-opened a few weeks ago and came across these fine dames. At first I thought it was your usual botox/silicone/ vinyl/whatever -else- that -is- in- the- plastic -category  typical LA women. However, I was half mistaken ( they weren’t moving)- it was a series of mannequins done up by the Santa Monica Mannequin Collective! Overjoyed, I ran over and took photos with my iPhone (totally forgot to throw my regular camera in my pocketbook-so, sorry for the bad quality). Each of the 100 mannequins was re-imagined by local artists and designers. My favorite is the Pippi Longstocking mannequin by Lululemon Athletics. Obviously they had me in mind when they made that. (Well, a drag version of me if I were a man-who has broad shoulders like that? Okay, maybe not me.) Anyway, Ed Hardy did one by basically shatting on Marie Antoinette. She’s rolling in her grave, as we speak. Madame Antoinette is covered in tattoos and in a tawdry dress. Oh, the Humanity!! But it’s all for a good cause to benefit Otis College of Art and Design ( what about Hall?)

Now I’m gonna have Netflix Mannequin with pre-SATC Kim Catrall.

The illustrious Hasty and Jacques Torres

Hasty Torres and me

Nestled in the heart of Beverly Hills lies a magical boutique selling everything chocolate! Madame Chocolat is an enchanted chocolate boutique owned and run by Hasty Torres, wife of chocolate wizard Jacques Torres. Each of Hasty’s chocolate creations are delectable and beautiful than the other. Coming in all shapes, sizes and flavors, chocolates are produced in small batches for every occasion and holiday. For Bastille Day, chocolate Eiffel Tower ranging from small to large were produced in honor of the French celebration. Solid or hollow chocolate high heels, handbags, sunglasses, watches, cigars, and almost everything in between are available for any sweet tooth. Not only are the shapes impressive, but the flavors are unique in its own. Over 21 variations of white, dark and milk chocolate, including a Grand Marnier-infused ganache, fresh raspberry ganache, champagne ganache (known as the ‘Champagne Kiss” *swoon*) exist in this lovely chocolate heaven. The extreme attention to detail of the packaging, the product itself, and the gorgeous French 16th century decor give even Fauchon and Lenotre a run for its money. Even the massive chandelier has the Madame Chocolat logo hanging throughout the chandelier. That’s damn exquisite, if you ask me.

Hasty was gracious to let us into her factory and showed us the process of making haute chocolate. The chocolate is constantly churning to keep from hardening and is ready for impromptu drizzles or a full-fledged production of bon-bons and truffles. Each chocolate takes at least two days to make! After sampling a bunch of chocolates, I left the store with a smile on my face, a sense of luxury( I was channeling Mr. Marmar) and a major sugar high. ( Not sure if that’s the best combo for driving-hahaha). Be sure to try some of your favorite childhood candies and cookies dipped in chocolate, like Cheerios, Oreos, Rice Krispies and of course, marshmallow s’mores. Madame Chocolat not only serves chocolates, but also ice cream, tea, coffee, iced drinks, croissants and cookies.  Custom orders are available and nationwide shipping is available. Be sure to say, Haaaaaaaay‘ to the lovely Hasty for me- she’s a doll!

The cutest kitty on earth ( Mr. Marmar just gave me the evil eye) turns 35 this year! In celebration of this milestone, LA based, Japanese cosplay cafè, Royal- T, transformed their space into the magical and kitchy land of Hello Kitty and called it Hello Kitty: Three Apples. Various artworks from famous contemporary artists covered the walls paying homage to the curiously, cute feline with the oversized red bow.  On display were relics from past Hello Kitty merchandise going as far back as 1974 and fashion pieces made with Hello Kitty. As you may know, I am a humungous Hello Kitty fan, so walking into the space gave me sensory overload like no other kind. Basically, I want ape sh*t. I even bought the oversized, vinyl red bow headband for myself (and Mr. Marmar). If you are in the area, RUN to see this…. this is a must see for any Hello Kitty fan!

Click here to check out the video of the Hello Kitty exhibit for people who can’t get to LA before they remove the show.

Sir Ian McKellen at DPA gifting suites

I had the pleasure and delight to attend the DPA Gifting Suite produced by Nathalie DuBois-Sissoko at the ritzy Peninsula Hotel in the heart of Beverly Hills, CA.

I have attended past DPA gifting suites for the Oscars, and Golden Globes in previous years and it seems every year it gets better and better. What makes DPA better than all the other gifting suites around town during awards season? It is DuBois-Sissoko’s attention to detail, most unique gifts and experiences and the magnitude of luxury that exudes from all of her suites throughout the year and throughout the world. She hosts suites in Cannes, France, Venice, Italy and Dubai during their respective film festivals creating a timely momentum for the hottest and chicest stars to attend.

This year’s Golden Globe suite boasted the whimsical, Austrian jewelry designer, HENRI J. SILLAM. His elegant creations included a delicious ruby encrusted, gold strawberry ring (my favorite!).  Some more fantastical pieces include a diamond and pearl encrusted swan, a deer necklace, frog brooches, and rhino rings all encrusted in rare and precious stones, like Black Diamonds, Green Persian Turquoise, and Lavender Jade. Some pieces at the suite were specially made for a special celebrity to wear on the Golden Globe red carpet.

Designer, EVA VARRO, unveiled their casual chic dresses in retro prints that Pucci would adore. Her fun, fresh designs have graced the bodies of many TV and movie stars, including Eva Longoria- Parker of ‘Desperate Housewives’.  Her collections are available at Nordstrom’s and select Boutiques. As well as being travel friendly, the dresses are made in the US using high quality slinky fabrics perfect for the beach, a day of lunch and shopping or dress it up with accessories for a dashing evening about town.

Ever hear of elixir of Quartz Crystal being incorporated into your daily skin regimen? SPHATIKA prides itself on this unique line of products for any skin type. These ‘high quality pure, natural ad chemical-free botanical products’ are available as facial cleansers, facial toners, milk bath oil, and an intriguing ‘gold finish serum’. You may view all their wonderful products

Online. If you are lucky enough to be in my favorite city in the world, New York City, SPHATIKA has a beautiful spa near Columbus Circle offering probably your most tranquil time in the city that never sleeps.

DPA offered a most unusual beauty treatment provided by LONGMI LASHES BY DANIEL.  Lash extensions that are so real that I couldn’t tell if they were real lashes on one his models. Hollywood’s most sought after lash expert, Daniel, has provided Naomi Campbell, Miss Teen USA and Shannon Tweed, as well as many more celebrities with lashes to die for. Once each and individual lash is applied by hand, they will last about 4 weeks. Well worth it for not having to risk the Tammy Faye effect with mascara.

One exquisite gift that is truly unique to DPA gifting suites is the fabulous Tahiti, French Polynesia vacation provided by PEARL RESORTS and LA TAHA’A private island and resorts. This remarkable exotic escape is a signature of every DPA gifting suite.

Other notables at DPA were PUPPERAZI, a super stylish boutique for the most chic dogs and cats, who also give a charitable 5% to fight against puppy mills. BAMBOO HUGS, a great eco-friendly line of bath towels made with one of the most sustainable sources, Bamboo- for babies and children. One of her creations includes a cat-hooded towel made of a cuddly, soft purple bamboo. Colorado designers, VAMP BAGSshowed off their animal friendly and Eco-friendly stylish handbags- my favorite was a red clutch with a bracelet attached, just so you never lose that pocketbook.

Another jeweler was present called HENDERSON DESIGN, which is designed and run by a mother and daughter from Houston, TX. They’re signature is being able to mix and match necklace strands of delicate gold and faceted stones creating the most personal, unique look of your choice. To go with the gorgeous necklaces, DPA introduced Cindy Renée Mathieu for SODALISCIOUS for enchanting handmade gowns perfect for the avant-garde actress walking the red carpet.
