Marchesa is one of my favorite designers. They focus on evening gowns and tend to be my favorite dresses whenever I watch an award show. Beautiful, yet modern- I cannot say this collection is innovative especially since I see bits of Givenchy. I do love it and think they are gorgeous, it’s just that the sheer, heavily-embroidered gowns have already been done recently. In any case, I can’t hate on Marchesa- after all, they are the ONLY American designers that would fit in comfortably at the  Paris Haute Couture shows and I respect that.

The original French punk did it again! I have to say this collection was by far one of the best Gaultier collections I have seen in a long time. The fact that it’s Haute Couture makes it even more impressive because although some of his designs can be costume-y, these are actually wearable, yet unique. My fave is definitely the last photo with the can-can skirt. BRILLIANT! If I wore that I’d make an excuse to lift my skirt as much as possible. The fifth photo of the black and white striped organza dress is just perfect. Why can’t movie stars were this stuff on the red carpet instead of the ho-hum, safe, FUG  dress?? All these incredible dresses and they end up with the one uninspiring dress that every JCPenney can knockoff. Really. Anyway, Gaultier has absolutely regained his special place in my heart!

John Galliano never ceases to amaze me. So many wonderful creations from a man that could be mistaken for your neighborhood eccentric on a bike decorated with junk. But see, that is what makes Galliano’s designs  so cutting edge and fresh, everything he touches has a flair of punk and irony. That is why he is one of my most favorite designers of all time. He has the balls to take a classic French house like Dior and turn it upside down and gives us this. This is what fashion is about – recession or not. It’s about escaping and dreaming of this world of full ball gown skirts, meticulous embroidery and color fit for any storybook tale. Galliano was inspired by Flemish ( Belgium) and Dutch (The Netherlands) arts this season, most apparent in the embroidery and patterns at the bottom of the skirts. Voluminous sleeves and skirts dominated the collection, bringing evoking thoughts of a fairy tale princess. Bravo, Monsieur Galliano!

Think of the most glamorous celebrity gift suite in the most glamorous city in the world. You can’t help to think of the DPA gift suite titled 2009 ESPACE GLAMOUR CHIC® in Paris, France.   Nathalie Dubois-Sissoko once again dazzles us in her home country and in the City of Lights perfectly timed for the French equivalent of the OSCAR AWARDS® called the CESAR AWARDS®. The event took place at the historic, arc deco HOTEL NAPOLEON where classic French film legend, Jean Gabin shot many of his movies, and where stars like Josephine Baker, Audrey Hepburn, Errol Flynn, and Orson Welles once roamed the halls.

This year’s suite boasted a wide variety of luxurious skincare for every skin type from cosmetic giant LANCOME, to DERMALOGICA – The Age Smart kit, to Demi Moore endorsed HELENA RUBENSTEIN skincare and makeup (not available in the US).  For the men, BIOTHERM HOMME provided skincare products. BENEDETTA, which means ‘blessed’ in Italian, blessed us with their with holistic skin care. BIO-SALINES, a French skincare brand that incorporates its products with the famed specialty salt, ESPRIT DU SEL, sprinkled the DPA gifting suite.  If the elixir of quartz crystal skincare was more your cup of tea, SPHATIKA shined the DPA gift suite. DANIELE de WINTER showcased her skincare from Monaco inspired by her father’s research and treatment of cancer patients. LE ROI SALOMON (for men) and LA SULTANE DE SABA (for women) took DPA guests on the voyage of the world through its unique skincare line. Artisan bath and soap product maker, LUSH, made DPA guests smell a little sweeter.

The Polaroid PoGo, a mobile printer in the palm of your hand (no shaking need) that connects to almost any digital camera or phone satisfied the tech savvy.  PULL-IN Underwear supplied the coverage of another kind for men and women. In the jewelry department, OH DIS LE MOI jewelry graced us with their modern, yet elegant jewelry line. More gifts were provided by  ASICS / Onitsuka Tiger (Tokidoki) sneakers that glow in the dark and tote. For the Rockers,  ETERNAL CLOTHING  gave us tattooed shirts and clothing.

MARCHON eyewear is a DPA staple with eyewear from designers like Karl Lagerfeld and Fendi. NICOLE VAN DYKE brought back the 1950s and 1960s French style through her handbags and frocks. For the dedicated yoga followers, no wardrobe is complete without SPIRITUAL GANGSTER. PACK AND FLY provided useful and smart travel accessories for the jet set. Remember the days of supple kid leather gloves?  MAISON FABRE, founded in 1924, keeps that elegance alive.

Sir Ian McKellen at DPA gifting suites

I had the pleasure and delight to attend the DPA Gifting Suite produced by Nathalie DuBois-Sissoko at the ritzy Peninsula Hotel in the heart of Beverly Hills, CA.

I have attended past DPA gifting suites for the Oscars, and Golden Globes in previous years and it seems every year it gets better and better. What makes DPA better than all the other gifting suites around town during awards season? It is DuBois-Sissoko’s attention to detail, most unique gifts and experiences and the magnitude of luxury that exudes from all of her suites throughout the year and throughout the world. She hosts suites in Cannes, France, Venice, Italy and Dubai during their respective film festivals creating a timely momentum for the hottest and chicest stars to attend.

This year’s Golden Globe suite boasted the whimsical, Austrian jewelry designer, HENRI J. SILLAM. His elegant creations included a delicious ruby encrusted, gold strawberry ring (my favorite!).  Some more fantastical pieces include a diamond and pearl encrusted swan, a deer necklace, frog brooches, and rhino rings all encrusted in rare and precious stones, like Black Diamonds, Green Persian Turquoise, and Lavender Jade. Some pieces at the suite were specially made for a special celebrity to wear on the Golden Globe red carpet.

Designer, EVA VARRO, unveiled their casual chic dresses in retro prints that Pucci would adore. Her fun, fresh designs have graced the bodies of many TV and movie stars, including Eva Longoria- Parker of ‘Desperate Housewives’.  Her collections are available at Nordstrom’s and select Boutiques. As well as being travel friendly, the dresses are made in the US using high quality slinky fabrics perfect for the beach, a day of lunch and shopping or dress it up with accessories for a dashing evening about town.

Ever hear of elixir of Quartz Crystal being incorporated into your daily skin regimen? SPHATIKA prides itself on this unique line of products for any skin type. These ‘high quality pure, natural ad chemical-free botanical products’ are available as facial cleansers, facial toners, milk bath oil, and an intriguing ‘gold finish serum’. You may view all their wonderful products

Online. If you are lucky enough to be in my favorite city in the world, New York City, SPHATIKA has a beautiful spa near Columbus Circle offering probably your most tranquil time in the city that never sleeps.

DPA offered a most unusual beauty treatment provided by LONGMI LASHES BY DANIEL.  Lash extensions that are so real that I couldn’t tell if they were real lashes on one his models. Hollywood’s most sought after lash expert, Daniel, has provided Naomi Campbell, Miss Teen USA and Shannon Tweed, as well as many more celebrities with lashes to die for. Once each and individual lash is applied by hand, they will last about 4 weeks. Well worth it for not having to risk the Tammy Faye effect with mascara.

One exquisite gift that is truly unique to DPA gifting suites is the fabulous Tahiti, French Polynesia vacation provided by PEARL RESORTS and LA TAHA’A private island and resorts. This remarkable exotic escape is a signature of every DPA gifting suite.

Other notables at DPA were PUPPERAZI, a super stylish boutique for the most chic dogs and cats, who also give a charitable 5% to fight against puppy mills. BAMBOO HUGS, a great eco-friendly line of bath towels made with one of the most sustainable sources, Bamboo- for babies and children. One of her creations includes a cat-hooded towel made of a cuddly, soft purple bamboo. Colorado designers, VAMP BAGSshowed off their animal friendly and Eco-friendly stylish handbags- my favorite was a red clutch with a bracelet attached, just so you never lose that pocketbook.

Another jeweler was present called HENDERSON DESIGN, which is designed and run by a mother and daughter from Houston, TX. They’re signature is being able to mix and match necklace strands of delicate gold and faceted stones creating the most personal, unique look of your choice. To go with the gorgeous necklaces, DPA introduced Cindy Renée Mathieu for SODALISCIOUS for enchanting handmade gowns perfect for the avant-garde actress walking the red carpet.
