So,  I have to show you my gnome outfit I wore recently to my interviews with Elton John, Emily Blunt and James McAvoy for Gnomeo & Juliet. The movie was adorable! As a huge fan of gnomes ( Exhibit A and Exhibit B), I had to go all out and spread to everyone my freakish love for gnomes. Don’t laugh, but everyone has a weakness- mine happens to be miniature bearded men in pointy hats with an affinity for gardening.

I am wearing a skirt by Made With Love By Hannah, shoes by Irregular Choice, shirt from the depths of my closet, and cardigan by Anthropologie. Lilly pad/ladybug hair clip from Patricia Field‘s circa when I still had a pager and Hair Rosettes by ‘Tressa the Hairdressa’ from PuppycatMeow.

By the way, I wish they made this in my size! By DollFace girls.

So I dyed my hair over the Christmas break since I was so sick of dyeing my hair fire engine red every 2 weeks for fear of the skanky look. Seriously, half the month my head was under a hat because the color was fading and the roots were sprouting. I put it end to that by dyeing my hair my natural color ( kinda funny to dye your hair your natural color). Anywho, the talented Tressa the Hairdressa sent me a whole new batch of hair creations in my new color from her Etsy shop Puppycatmeow. Above are some cute Valentine’s themed hair accessories and I will post soon about the  hair creations. I had to break it into 2 posts since there was so much stuff! My favorite is the Valentine Rose hat! It matches my Valentine’s rose corset from Victoria’s Secret from 1997! Yes, I still have it. And check out the red human hair extensions- pretty cool if I want to go punky for the day or night. Check out Puppycatmeow ‘s shop for awesome hair creations!

Director Emmanuel Itier and Sharon Stone

So, I got out of my Pj’s and off the computer to attend a fancy event recently for my husband’s documentary,  ‘The Invocation‘. Emmanuel Itier directed it and Sharon Stone narrated the documentary on Religion around the world and how it effects our world today. Deepak Chopra, Desmund Tutu, Mark Wahlberg, Rosario Dawson, Dave Stewart, and music by Annie Lennox and many many others are all in ‘The Invocation’. The event was The Beverly Hills Film, TV, and New Media Festival and the cast of  ‘The Invocation’ was awarded a Humanitarian Award. Here is a clip of Sharon Stone’s speech that night ( I am on the far left side):

I wore a custom-made (by Lillia) 1950’s-style toile dress (it was upholstery fabric, so it was a little heavy) with a bow (can’t not wear a bow- I’ve tried- doesn’t seem to happen). My necklace was Vivienne Westwood, gloves by Arden B. and my shoes were satin Chanel ballet heels from the spring 2001 collection and the ballet handbag is something I made and can be purchased here. My phone, lipstick, a piece of chocolate, some cash and a credit card fit well in the handbag- that’s it.

For the second night, I wore a flapper-style dress I made ages ago with feather, lace and bead detail. I was feeling a little Boardwalk Empire. I have to say this dress is pretty comfy because the fabric is stretchy cotton. I had just had a delicious meal of half rack of ribs, fries, coleslaw, soda, and a slice of ice cream pie before the event, so it was nice to not have to loosen my belt…my dress just s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d. Love that. You can buy one here on my Etsy.

I did my hair and make up for both events and used Puppycatmeow’s rosettes and braid extension found here. All styling was by moi.

~Today, I turn 29 years old for the 4th time. I’m gonna stuff my face with cupcakes, candies and tea! Yay!!~

recreating a Bjork look!

Princess Leia... yes, that's a bathrobe.

Padme wiglet

mini Bjork Buns

Single ballet-style bun

Dragonfly!

A little box of greatness was sitting at my doorstep again the other day. Yes, a box of hairstuff by the illustrious Tressa the Hairdressa!!! This time it was Princess Leia buns, Bjork buns, a Padme bun and a Dragonfly hairclip that were sent! I love these buns because it has a net underneath that allows you to just put your hair up and then place the buns over your own hair. It’s really fuss-free and you don’t have to have hair down to your butt to do it. Win-Win, dahhhling. Anyway, the Bjork buns are my favorite because I used to wear Bjork buns in high school. Except I had to use like a trillion bobby pins to keep it up. The upside was that I always had a bobby pin for any occasion, like picking a lock or something. Check out the Dragonfly hairclip made of hair! That’s pretty killer! And for all the Star Wars fanatics, the Princess Leia buns and Padme bun is puuuurrrrrfect for your next Comic-Con adventure or just any occasion involving geeks. Check out Puppycatmeow’s etsy shop for her new creations!

Rosette in my hair by Puppycatmeow on Etsy

So, I had to get dolled up for a few occasions and here are the pictures for proof. Usually, I sit around in a pair of stained PJ’s writing this classy blog. The first three photos were for my interviews for Twilight 3: Eclipse … I was trying to channel Nanny Fine from The Nanny with the Moschino belt from the 1990s. I put a rosette in my hair by Puppycatmeow on Etsy. The pink suit is actually a vintage store find from 20 years ago. I added some Chanel accessories to it to really give it that ‘uptown’ look which clashed with my ‘downtown’ hair. I like it when the ‘uptown’ and ‘downtown’ meet. I stole a picnic tablecloth and made that red gingham dress. Not really, I bought that ages ago! I pulled that rockabilly dress out for a recent trip to Mexico. Notice the mud flap girl necklace from Patricia Field’s. And lastly, I continued the gingham, but in lemon with this Nanette Lepore dress. I added the matching headscarf for a Eastern- European -country- girl -ready -to- go- apple-picking- in-her-vintage -bicycle. I think I nailed that look on the head. Ignore the Spongebob crocs in the back there….Voila!

So I had a nice package of goodies waiting for me again courtesy of hair extraordinaire, Tressa the Hairdressa! She has a store on Etsy called Puppycatmeow, in case you haven’t seen my older posts. This time she made HUMAN HAIR bangs for me and HUMAN HAIR color extensions. Human hair is pretty damn special, if you ask me. Some Indian woman sacrificed her hair during one of her breaks at her telemarketing job. Wouldn’t it be ironic if the hair on my head belonged to the same damn bill collector that calls me during dinner time? That sh*t should be a movie. Wait, it is! Anywho, the talented Tressa also fulfilled my wishes by making pom-poms or “hairballs” (as Tressa calls them and Mr. Marmar approves) for my head. There are 2 small ones and one big ball! I love love love them. My most favorite is, of course ,the bangs- I did victory curls to look like a manic Stepford Wife or Sally Jupiter in the first photo and then a Bettie Page do for a Rockabilly look (3rd photo). In the 6th photo is a ponytail/fall, that prompted my 5 year old son say, “you look like a princess”. He asked for candy straight after that. The clip-in human hair strands in a variety of wild colors are also available at Puppycatmeow. Above, I wear blue as an ode to Smurfette and white as an ode to…. an old lady, I guess? Check out Puppycatmeow for more amazing stuff!

I know – it’s an overload of ME! Sorry… But I just was so excited by these hair pieces that ‘Tressa the Hair Dressa’ made for me! I mean, they totally match my real hair and gives me an excuse to just throw on a hair piece than actually do my hair. I may never do my hair again. So, starting from the top:

– The Faux Hawk- I got all British Punk for that photo. I hope you can’t see my mom jeans.

-The single braid with bed head- seriously, I was groggy when Felix*  took my photo.

-The Knotty Braid headband- love that name!

-The ‘I Dream of Jeannie’ braids- I tried to blink my way away, but it didn’t work.

-The Wowwy Zowwy braid- It’s so long- I was afraid to go to the bathroom with it.

-My personal favorite- The ‘bird’s nest’ like Marie Antoinette! The nest is made out of hair! Everyone needs a bird’s nest in their hair sometimes.

– The Totally Twisted headband- I was channeling an elegant Axl Rose.

-The large Rosettes- for that ‘old-timey’ look or the ‘I just baked muffins for strangers while on speed’ look.

-And last but not least, A single braid headband- perfect for everyday use.

Click here for Puppycatmeow‘s shop. Seriously, ‘Tressa the Hairdressa’ is the master! And she’ll make it in your hair color!
