Me with a kitty

It’s that time of year again! Award season. I had the pleasure of attending the DPA Golden Globes Gift Lounge again held at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills. In attendance were Billy Zane, Edie Falco, and Kate Flannery, to name a few. Sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter, this particular gift lounge is one of the most unique in the business and offers the most luxurious new products and services around. Producer of all the DPA Gift lounges around the world, Nathalie Dubois-Sissoko hosts gift lounges in Cannes, France, Venice, Italy and Dubai during their respective film festivals and cinema awards creating a timely momentum for the hottest and chicest stars to attend.

Starting with fashion wear, Brazilian designer, Barbara Bela and Canadian designer SODALISCIOUS showed off their formal evening-wear creations for women. Toronto’s Starkers! Corsetry had beautiful corsets on display, each made by hand and in a wide array of fabrics and patterns including one (my favorite) with golden bees upon hunter green. Worn by the likes of Eva Longoria-Parker and other ‘Desperate Housewives’, casual day dresses with a variety of prints and colors by EVA VARRO were also gifted. Tristan + Trista offered a more avant-garde style of clothing with very loosely knit dresses and a butter-soft leather jackets.

Punk-inspired jewelry with safety pins and pearls by Ginger McGann were on hand to compliment a bold dress. As well as, jewelry made with precious stones and sparkling Swarovski crystals by Micalla. Fantastic couture headbands with lighting bolts and Hawaiian flowers were gifted to guests by Geisha Fabulous. Diane von Fustenbourg sunglasses for MARCHON and leather bracelets by Royal Blush rounded out the swanky accessories that were given at DPA.

Tranquil and rejuvenating spa treatments and massages inside the three suites were provided by THE MASSAGE EXPRESS and New York City spa, SPHATIKA. Sphatika utilizes the elixir of quartz crystal in all their skin care products, rendering a pure, high quality and chemical-free product. Their ‘gold finish serum’ is a one of my favorites. A $1500 Natura Bisse skincare Diamond Collection gift box were given to special guests, as well as Kerstin Florian’s luxurious caviar line of skin care products. More beauty treatments were provided by Sisley cosmetics and Brazilian Blowout, a revolutionary, smoothing hair treatment at the Argyle Salon & Spa, used by the likes of Nicole Ritchie and Halle Berry. Tanya of B’Fly by Tanya gave me a wonderful manicure. She also does the new nail technique called Minx, which is a photocopy of any image, heat-transferred onto your nails for maximum wear and tear. I’m tempted to put my cat (Mr. Marmar) on my nails (seriously). If you are not sure about the new lash treatments available, then this breakthrough lash conditioner, MD Lash Factor, may be for you. Thicker and longer lashes without the harsh chemicals are at this brand’s core. Eyebrow artists from Beverly Hill’s Anastasia salon provided on-site eyebrow shaping and their own brand of mascara and brow gel.

Guests traveling to New York City must venture to Harlem for a new, experimental retailer called SWING. With exclusive items from around the world, you can find the very best and rare items from music to house-wares to accessories and kid’s clothes- all under on roof. For the superstitious, Good Luck Horseshoes showed off their unique gift of gold-plated horseshoes, as well as horseshoes in pink, baby blue, silver. I saw an engraved, gold-plated large horseshoe reserved for Robert Downey, Jr. and a large, gold horseshoe necklace fit for a rapper.

The ultimate gift at every DPA gift lounge is the complimentary, exotic escape to Tahiti, French Polynesia at LE TAHA’A private island and spa and the ST. REGIS BORA BORA. This gift was given to a very special guest, usually a nominee at The Golden Globe Awards.

In the wake of the tragic earthquake in Haiti, DPA gift lounge had set up collection boxes for the non- profit organization, Hollywood Unites for Haiti throughout the suites reminding us all of how lucky we are and how fragile life can be.

With impeccable taste for the luxurious, Nathalie DuBois-Sissoko of DPA has an eye for everything superb that attracts the biggest stars (Sharon Stone, Queen Latifah, Scarlet Johansson, and Catherine Deneuve, among others) with discernment.

Other products and refreshments were provided by STEAZ ICED TEAS, Cloud b, Kara Pilates, Brazilian Cabana Cachaca , St Germain, Bird Pick Tea, Roo tote bags, Garret Gourmet Popcorn, Me and Goji artisan cereal, Chokolinis (Austrian organic apple pieces covered with chocolate or yogurt), Volvic, Nature baby and Little Spoon desserts.

My friend , ‘Tressa the Hairdressa’, designed these awesome hair/head pieces. I asked her to do a teacup to go with my Alice in Wonderland outfit and she came up with the above photo. Seeing that I love gnomes (like LOVE, I have a gaggle gnomes in my home), Tressa made a mushroom hat for days when I feel like prancing through the forest with my little gnome looking for ladybugs. (What? Doesn’t everyone do that?) And , last but not least, the ‘rosettes’ made of matching hair for a ‘Rose” effect! Those are great because you slide them on and it looks like you had you’re hair done at the hairdressa! You can order these and many others at Puppycatmeow.

PS- I made the photos look like a storybook with the ‘vignette’  and ‘antique’ option on my iPhoto…Good stuff!

PPS- She also did the Lady Gaga Bow for me as seen on an earlier post!

Wig and Hair extraordinaire, Charlie Le Mindu created a lip-shaped wig for his Spring 2010 collection. It could look obscene if flipped sideways. I’m not even gonna go there! I like how there are 3 pairs of sunglasses. It reminds me of that statue in Soho, NYC with 8 pairs of  boobies. The other wig is more than a wig, it’s a fuping mask – Prince’s My Name is Prince style!  That was my jam back in the day! My name is Prince ’cause I am funky! I’ll spare you the lyrics even though they’re embedded in my brain until I die! Plus, I know you know them already. So, check out Charlie’s website– it’s really cool, especially, with the New Jersey  mafia housewife as a reoccurring character as the pages load.

Also, Check out PuppyCatMeow‘s awesome custom headband/ hair bow made by the delightful Tressa the Hairdressa! She does custom work and has a great section of non-custom cool stuff for hair. You may contact her for any wig/hair creations at puppycatmeow (at) hotmail.com ( make sure you put ‘hair bow ‘ in the subject line)  . I LOVE my HAIR BOW! Although, I’m not kookoo for Lady Gaga, that hair bow is the bomb! Thanks, Tressa, for making this for me!
