Director Emmanuel Itier and Sharon Stone

So, I got out of my Pj’s and off the computer to attend a fancy event recently for my husband’s documentary,  ‘The Invocation‘. Emmanuel Itier directed it and Sharon Stone narrated the documentary on Religion around the world and how it effects our world today. Deepak Chopra, Desmund Tutu, Mark Wahlberg, Rosario Dawson, Dave Stewart, and music by Annie Lennox and many many others are all in ‘The Invocation’. The event was The Beverly Hills Film, TV, and New Media Festival and the cast of  ‘The Invocation’ was awarded a Humanitarian Award. Here is a clip of Sharon Stone’s speech that night ( I am on the far left side):

I wore a custom-made (by Lillia) 1950’s-style toile dress (it was upholstery fabric, so it was a little heavy) with a bow (can’t not wear a bow- I’ve tried- doesn’t seem to happen). My necklace was Vivienne Westwood, gloves by Arden B. and my shoes were satin Chanel ballet heels from the spring 2001 collection and the ballet handbag is something I made and can be purchased here. My phone, lipstick, a piece of chocolate, some cash and a credit card fit well in the handbag- that’s it.

For the second night, I wore a flapper-style dress I made ages ago with feather, lace and bead detail. I was feeling a little Boardwalk Empire. I have to say this dress is pretty comfy because the fabric is stretchy cotton. I had just had a delicious meal of half rack of ribs, fries, coleslaw, soda, and a slice of ice cream pie before the event, so it was nice to not have to loosen my belt…my dress just s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d. Love that. You can buy one here on my Etsy.

I did my hair and make up for both events and used Puppycatmeow’s rosettes and braid extension found here. All styling was by moi.

~Today, I turn 29 years old for the 4th time. I’m gonna stuff my face with cupcakes, candies and tea! Yay!!~

Australian shop Lark is exactly the kind of store I LOVE! It’s filled with unique, cutesy, girly, vintage items that are destined to become heirlooms. ( I could be a little dramatic, right now because no one right is gonna use 40 year old soap.) Anyway, here’s a run down of everything I loved in their online store:

1. Fun Fact: I collect cuckoo clocks and gnomes. (That probably explains everything.) Anywho, these cuckoo clocks are extra-special because they’re FELT! Awesome is an understatement. But I predict it would be covered in cat hair by day 3 at my house. Even more FUN!

2. Deer soap- So vintage-y and Bambi-like. LOVE  it so much that I probably would never use it. Woe is me.

3. A Diner lunchbox/handbag- It’s a 1950s partaaay!

4.A pigtail kit- Because it’s a dire necessity in any girl’s life. I ordered two.

5. Vintage Dinner Placemat- Excellent way to remember which side the silverware goes. Also, an excellent way to serve food without dishes…. maybe not.

6.An owl purse- My Goldfrapp obsession continues…

7. Felt deer’s head- Brilliant!!!! No deers died for that, but the felt felt something.(Gong! Wait one more.. almost done….)

8.Teacup gift wrap- But, of course!

Okay, you can use the hook now.

London boutique Antoni & Alison has some killer trompe l’oeil gear that would make Moschino proud. Their sweaters are all cashmere and run about $300-$350. I love trompe l’oeil because it looks like you have a real outfit on when really it’s just a shirt or sweater. I guess I could have been a mime in another lifetime …. or just lazy. Anyway, I may save my pennies for one of these, particularly the first photo of a Frenchy poster child. I’d wear that while buying a baguette. Check out their website for more cool stuff including some fupe art (my favorite!)

vanderglas-1

Polly Van der Glas has taken human parts like hair and teeth to construct his creepy jewelry and accessories line. Check out the brass knuckles (first photo) made out of teeth. Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think? You can knock out teeth with teeth! This is some CSI sh*t! Imagine finding out your jewelry belongs to a missing person- dang. Be sure to check out Polly’s other jewelry/accessories, especially the human hair purse.  I wonder if her studio has moths and butterflies….he he.

It looks like designer James Piatt went ahead and made a handbag that scares the hell out of me. Okay, so this is a handbag of a ‘abandoned’ baby with interchangeable ankle tags that each represent a celebrity baby. At fist look, I thought the mouth was a baby crying , but I guess it’s a binky? And the square hunchback on the baby is unsettling. Moving on, here is a run down of the celebrity ankle tags:

-A pack of cigarettes for Britney Spear’s kids

-A water well for Baby Jessica

-An open window for Michael Jackson’s son, Prince Michael II

-An airplane for Charles Lindbergh, Jr.

Here are my suggestions for Piatt if he wants to expand the tag collection:

– An octopus for the OctoMom

-A globe for Angelina Jolie’s kids

-A spaceship for Suri Cruise

-A Kabbalah string for Madonna’s kids

A pair of mink eyelashes for Jennifer Lopez’s  kids

The more I look at this handbag, the more I want to hide and pull the sheets over my face. Click here to see more of James Piatt’s fupe purses including a ‘cat on a stick’.

Air mail Couture is my new favorite obsession! These are no ordinary envelopes! These are those old school  special air mail envelopes that I remember my mom getting letters from Iran in.  I already have the envelope clutch from a recent trip to Patricia Field’s in NYC. It was one of those things where I saw it and then I grabbed…. and then I bought it.  No thought required.  The dress above is the Par Avion Dress from Daydream Nation for their Fall 2009 collection. Wouldn’t these just go along so wonderfully? My mission is get that dress somehow, someway. Unfortunately, Daydream Nation does not have a list of retailers or an online shop. So, I will be on the hunt meanwhile. That way I can walk into a post office and make that irate postal worker smile just once.

Belgium born, Natalia Brilli, must have watched Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom one too many times. She designed a hard case purse in the shape of a skull (let’s pretend it’s a monkey) that opens like those chilled monkey brains in the Palace in the Indy movie. Everyone remembers that scene. The eyeball soup, the chilled monkey brains, the child emperor. Click here if you don’t what the eff I’m talking about. Okay! Let’s think of rainbows and waterfalls and fairies and glitter, now!  Surprisingly, what’s more bizarre is the pineapple. Maybe she was making a statement with ‘abundance and quality’. Pineapples are a symbol of abundance and quality in Italian culture. Or maybe she’s a fan of Dole.  In any case, these are purses that will break the ice at any party.
